AVONLEA ESTATE
Lake Michigan Shore AVA

Our estate vineyard, Avonlea, is one of Michigans oldest continuously producing vinifera vineyard sites. Many of the original vines, planted in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s, are still producing beautiful high quality grapes. The site is home to several vinifera grape varieties including Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Noir, and Cabernet Sauvignon. The site is farmed utilizing organic and regenerative practices. We are also working to restore the vineyard back to its full production potential by working to replant and retrain vines, as well as focus on enchancing the vine and soil health through our farming practices.

While we take great pride in our role as stewards to the land, we are also immensely grateful to have the opportunities to work with other growers in Southwest Michigan to source additional fruit for our wine program.

  • Stranger Wine Company is dedicated to creating small batch, minimal intervention wines that highlight Michigan's Vinifera. As part of our commitment to highlighting the unique terroir of our region, we primarily utilize native fermentations and do not alter the wines with any finishing additives. Sulfur is used minimally prior to bottling to ensure that our products stay fresh right up to the moment you are enjoying them in your glass.

  • Stranger Wine Company is dedicated to the implementation of regenerative viticultural practices on their estate. Great wine starts with healthy grapes and healthy grapes start with healthy vines. As such, enhancing and maintaining vine health is of paramount importance to us in all of our viticultural practices.
